BBC apologized to Russian TV channel

The Russia Today TV channel made British TV apologize and retract the false information, said by the linkman of Daily Politics Andrew Neil on BBC Two.
His co-host Joe Coburn apologized: «last Thursday the linkman of news channel RT Afsin Rattansi was visiting us. In conversation with him, we mentioned that the RT correspondent Anastasia Churkina interviewed her father, the representative of Russia to the UN, Vitaly Churkin. However, later we found out that this information is untrue. We are happy to clarify the situation and to apologize for this mistake.»
On the eve the RT sent to the BBC a letter demanding a retraction and apology. The reason for this was the statement of Andrew Neil on TV that the RT correspondent Anastasia Churkina allegedly «interviewed her own father!» It was presented as a shocking example of poor journalism on Russian TV.
Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin has responded to the charges with an open letter to Christiane Amanpour, in which he noted: «In this regard, I remembered that You had got married to the official representative of the state Department. What was wrong with Your professional reputation during the courtship?».
